Combustion and Gasification Group

The research of the Combustion and Gasification Group is focused on the development of environmentally friendly processes for power generation using different feedstock as natural gas, coal and other solid fuels (biomass or wastes).

Lately, some of the group members (Prof.  Adanez, Dr.  de Diego, Dr. Garcia Labiano, Dra. Gayan and Dr. Abad) have been recognized as “Highly Cited Researcher” in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 by Thomson Reuters (currently Clarivate Analytics) by their high number of citations in the field of Engineering.

The group has a longstanding experience on research concerning combustion and gasification in bubbling and circulating fluidised beds, as well as in the hot gas-cleaning processes related with sulphur compounds (SO2, H2S, etc.).

Over the last years, the research of the group has been focused on the reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere coming from power plants, particularly on the development of new combustion processes allowing a low-cost CO2 capture, and new technology for H2 generation without CO2 emissions.
